A woman indicted with pursuing Kate McCann reportedly recorded her a phone message which questioned: "imagine I am Madeleine?"

The defendant, 24, who witnesses stated has repeatedly asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial charged with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February this year.

On Monday, Leicester Crown Court learned communication data and data obtained from phones logged Ms Wandelt repeatedly requesting Madeleine's mother for a DNA test over that period.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a family holiday in Portugal - is one of the most widely reported missing child cases and is still unresolved.

'I Don't Want Money'

A separate voicemail, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt saying: "I understand I'm overweight and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I feel what I know."

While another instance of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's voicemail expressed: "What if there is a tiny probability that I'm her? What then? Is that not important for you?"

"I am not seeking money, I maintain a life here in Poland, I simply desire to understand," she added.

The panel was informed that through emails, mobile messages and calls, Ms Wandelt asked for a biological test, sent early photographs to her phone in a bid to show a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and stated to have "recollections" from a childhood with the McCanns.

The investigator, a data specialist with the police force who compiled the evidence, informed the court there "showed no any responses" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt also reached out to family friends of the McCanns, as per the call data.

On that date, Gerry McCann responded to a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "a wrong number."

During that incident Ms Wandelt recorded a voicemail on Mrs McCann's recording stating "I will persist and I intend to demonstrate my claim."

The court learned the co-defendant struck up a relationship via internet with Ms Wandelt before joining her on a trip to the McCanns' home in Leicestershire in that winter.

Phone records demonstrated Mrs Spragg had reached out via WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to express the press had characterized Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she should be taken seriously in the months leading up to the visit to the village, Leicestershire, in that winter.

The court was told correspondence between the two individuals, in that autumn, considering endeavoring to acquire Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from silverware at a restaurant.

"We need to take action," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.

On the evening of the trip to their residence, Mrs Spragg transmitted a message which stated: "We're currently sitting near the McCanns' home with our vehicle dark resembling investigators. I had hoped to do this with Peter Andrew I didn't imagine I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
