Donald Trump along with Japanese Recently Appointed Prime Minister Exchange Compliments and Vow to Strengthen ‘Remarkable’ Bond

During a latest trip to Tokyo, former US President Trump together with the Japanese recently elected Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi exchanged warm praise and vowed to strengthen the currently strong bilateral ties.

Highlights from the Meeting

Trump praised Prime Minister Takaichi as a ‘great’ figure and congratulated her on assuming the role of the nation's inaugural female premier. In their talks at Tokyo's Akasaka Palace, Trump expressed optimism that she would prove to be one of the ‘outstanding leaders’ of the country.

Takaichi, identified as a close associate of late Japanese leader Shinzo Abe, praised his initiatives to address international conflicts and reportedly pledged to put forward Trump for the prestigious award.

Trade and Defense Deals

The two governments announced a series of collaborative initiatives in areas such as energy, artificial intelligence, and critical minerals. Japan-based companies are considering investments of up to $400bn in the US.

Furthermore, Japan had earlier pledged $550 billion in long-term US investments, loans, and assurances as part of an agreement to secure relief from Trump's import duties.

Such moves are seen as potentially reducing any upcoming demands from the US side for Japan to boost its defense spending. Takaichi addressed this by promising to accelerate plans to increase military budget to 2% of GDP.
