Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Player the Athlete

The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in communication with the NFL.

The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Posted on Instagram

The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, posted a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Rice's Recent Legal Issues

Rice was absent for the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

Statistically, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
